Obituary of Assuntino Bozza

BOZZA, ASSUNTINO - It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Assuntino "Sandy" Bozza on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the age of 86, surrounded by family and friends.

Assuntino is survived by his cherished wife of 66 years, Filomena and his beloved children the late Josephine (November 27, 1967), son Tony (Rose), and daughter Anna (Brian). Proud Nonno will be missed and lovingly remembered by his grandson Christopher (Francesca) and granddaughter Andrea Bozza, great grandson Luca for whose arrival he awaited and always put a smile on his face.

He was predeceased by his parents Cristina and Giuseppe Bozza and also predeceased by his brothers Giovanni (Addolorata) Bozza, Nicola (Angela) Bozza and sister Cesina (Antonio) Ricciuto.

He will be missed by sisters-in-law Maria (Clemente) Conte, Nancy (Wallace) Gordon, Josephine (Antonio) Mauriello and Grace (the late Michael) Cugino. Also predeceased by sisters-in-law Joanne Marchionda and Lucia Scobie. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews with whom he loved spending time.

Assuntino was born in Limosano, Italy and at age 20, he sought a better life in Canada settling in Thorold. Assuntino was a dedicated employee of Abitibi Paper in Thorold for 38 years, and was a loyal parishioner of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Thorold.

Sandy is remembered for his passion for life, his great sense of humour and delighted in practical jokes. He loved being surrounded by family and friends and his playful humor has left us all with countless happy memories. His family and friends fondly recall the Florida vacation adventures and the extravagant outdoor Christmas light decorations. An enthusiastic ballroom dancer, Sandy also loved to waltz and polka and is remembered for initiating the long tradition of New Year's Eve parties for family and friends.

Throughout his illness, Assuntino faced his condition with courage and determination, often providing strength for those around him.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many close friends and family that were present and supportive throughout his illness. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Harb, Holly, Ruth and Fran, Dr. Yelamanchili and the staff at the Walker Cancer Centre for their care. The family would also like to thank all of the CCAC staff for their care. Thank you to Lee Bateman for the years of special care. We also wish to thank Dr. Kerley and the staff at Hospice Niagara for their compassion and care.

The family will receive family and friends at the BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME 2 Regent Street, Thorold, on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 2-4 and 6:30-9 PM. Vigil prayers will be recited at 3 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church 21 Queen Street South, Thorold on Friday at 10 am. The Rite of Committal to follow at Lakeview Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations to Hospice Niagara or FACS Niagara for the Children's Educational Bursary Program would be greatly appreciated by the family and may be made through the Bocchinfuso Funeral Home.
